Chilli momos recipe

Momos are like steamed stuffed dumplings. However, now people have introduced many other type of momo recipes. You can find momos or dimsums in various forms either it’s tandoori, fried, steamed, gravy, bhutani or Afghani and many more. I just love experimenting with the snack items, so how can I not do the same with the most popular recipe of all the time “Momos” We find various type of chilli gravies basically in indo-chinese food, I used that same gravy for these “Chilli Momos”. These chilli Momos are spicy and juicy, and at the same time they have some sweet flavour also.

INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING MOMOS OUTER LAYER:-

  • Refined flour (2 cups)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Oil (3 tbsp)
  • Water (as needed)

INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING MOMOS STUFFING:-

  • Oil (2 tbsp)
  • Onions (1/2 cup)
  • Soya chunks (1 cup)
  • Cabbage (1 cup)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Black pepper (1/2 tbsp)

INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING CHILLI MOMOS:

  • Oil (2 tbsp)
  • Onions (1/2 cup)
  • Capsicum (1/2 cup)
  • Tomato ketchup (3 tbsp)
  • Red chilli sauce (2 tbsp)
  • Soy sauce (1 tbsp)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Black pepper (1/2 tbsp)
  • Flour paste (1/4 cup)
  • Water (1/2 cup)

METHOD FOR MAKING OUTER LAYER OF MOMOS:-

  • In a mixing bowl take 2 cups of all-purpose flour and add salt as per your taste,
  • Mix both of the raw ingredients,
  • Add about 3 tbsp of Oil and mix it well with the flour,
  • Now knead a semi-soft dough by adding water gradually in it,
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

METHOD FOR MAKING STUFFING FOR MOMOS:-

  • In a pan add 2 tbsp of oil and let it heat,
  • Add 1/2 cup of chopped onions and fry them till they become golden brown,
  • When the onions turn slightly brown add 1 cup of soaked and grinded soya chunks and 1 cup of chopped cabbage,
  • Add salt as per your taste, 1/2 tbsp black pepper and mix them well,
  • Cook all of these till they becomes dry, and the stuffing is ready.

METHOD FOR MAKING CHILLI MOMOS:-

  • Check the dough,
  • Knead the dough again to make it smooth,
  • Take small portions from the dough and make  small balls from it,
  • Roll the ball thin and cut circles from it with the help of a bowl,
  • Apply some flour paste(1tbsp all purpose flour + some water) on all the corners of the circles,
  • Place the stuffing in the centre that we prepared earlier,
  • Start pleating the round sheets and bind the momos,
  • Prepare all the momos with the same procedure,
  • Deep fry the momos on medium flame till they become golden brown,
  • After frying all the momos, reduce oil in the same pan(keep about 2 tbsp oil),
  • Add 1/2 cup onions and fry them till they become golden brown,
  • When the onions are well cooked add 1/2 chopped capsicum and saute well,
  • Add 3 tbsp tomato ketchup, 2 tbsp red chilli sauce, 1 tbsp soy sauce, salt as per your taste, 1/2 tbsp black pepper, water 1/2 cup and mix well,
  • Let the water boil and veggies cooked,
  • Add some flour paste to make it thick,
  • Add the fried momos and cook them together for 2-3 minutes and switch off the flame,
  • Your chilli momos are ready to be served.

NOTES:-

  • Instead of deep frying you can also steam the momos.
  • We add oil to the dough to make the momos soft.
